San Benito el Moro (Dec 25, 2010 – Jan 1, 2011): This festival known as the feast of San Benito, is a week long celebration of St. Benedict the Moor. St Benedict is the patron saint of the people around Lake Maracaibo and this event draws the most important and grandest celebrations of the year in the region. The traditional music of the feast is performed by an ensemble of chimbagueles. The Saint makes an appearance as a black man with Creole features according to traditional stories that have been passed on for generations. The patron saint was said to have a healthy thirst for rum and an appreciation of beautiful women, and both of these attributes form an important feature of the festival.

Paradura El Nino (Jan 6, 2011): This festival is celebrated throughout Venezuela and marks the day of Epiphany on the last of the twelve days of Christmas. A traditional custom of the festival of the festival is to give gifts to children denoting the presenting of gifts by ‘Los Tres Reyes Magos’ or the Three Kings.
