Cities in Trinidad and Tobago

Trinidad & Tobago has always been renowned for its beauty. Lovely beaches, ,beautiful mangrove forests and tropical forests add to the beauty of the islands. There are several cities in Trinidad & Tobago all having unique characters of their own. Some of these cities in Trinidad and Tobago are:

  • Arima: The Royal Borough of Arima is considered to be the fourth largest town in Trinidad & Tobago. The only organized indigenous community in the country is supported by Arima. This city was founded by Capuchin friars in the year 1757. The mission behind this was to convert the Amerindian population to Christianity.
  • Marabella: This was originally a separate town which was incorporated into the city of San Fernando in the year 1990. Located between Point-a-Pierre and San Fernando, it is situated in the south of Trinidad. Among the cities in Trinidad & Tobago, one of the major stadiums is located at this town.
    • Port of Spain : This is the capital of Trinidad & Tobago and also comprises of the third largest municipality of the country. It is located on the north west coast of the island of Trinidad, on the Gulf of Paria. The city is more like an administrative and retail center. Two of the largest banks of Caribbean can also be found here.
    • San Fernando : This city occupies the second largest municipality among the all the Trinidad & Tobago cities. At the north this city borders with the Guaracara river while the south is bordered with Oropouche River. This city is spread over an area of 18 sq km and is located at the Trinidad island's southwestern part.
    • Charlotteville: This is a picturesque town which is basically a fishing village. It is wrapped around a cove of Man O' war Bay on the eastern part of Tobago's north coast. If you want to reach this place by roads you will have to cover some very steep roads. Occasional fishing competitions are organized here.
    • Little Tobago Island: This place lies on the extreme east end of Tobago. If you want to get some spectacular views here you can try overlooking the hills. Also here you will find large flocks of Frigate birds and Red-footed Boobies.
    • Scarborough: this is the capital of Tobago. It has cruise docking facilities. Right opposite the docks, on Fridays and Saturdays, markets are set up in this area. Fish and vegetation are mainly to be found in this area. When seen from the Fort of King George, Scarborough appears very scenic and tranquil.
       
    • Store Bay: Lively crafts market, kiosks selling variety of local food and modern change rooms are characteristic of this place. This is also the departure point for cruises heading towards Buccoo reef.
    • Speyside: This is a small fishing village located on Tyrrel's Bay. For combined boat and hiking tours this is the departure point. Most of these tours are destined towards the local reefs and the bird sanctuary on Little Tobago Island. Blue Waters Inn, located about a km north of the town is the other departure point. The Inn also is an ideal place for relaxation on the beach.
