Cities in Sweden

Sweden is a great place for traveling when you are seeking a romantic getaway or even an escape from your daily busy routine. There are some outstanding cities in Sweden which further add to its glamour. Some of these cities in Sweden are:

  • Stockholm: This city is more like an amalgamation of fourteen islands in Lake Malaren. It is the beginning of an archipelago of 24,000 islands, and islets stretching up to Baltic Sea. Although Stockholm is a city of islands and bridges, towers and steeples, skyscrapers but that does not imply it is detached from nature. If you want you can also go fishing here in the downtown waterways.
  • Malmo: among the cities in Sweden, this is an ideal place for exploring the ancient castles and the nearby manor. Since this city is located on a sheltered bay, hence it has prospered from its early days. It is also Sweden's third largest city and has a busy port.
    • Gothenburg: This is regarded as the capital of the Scandinavian country's west coast. It is more like a blend of Swedish class and style as everything ranging from cultural museums, boutiques, gourmet restaurants and beautiful archipelago, all can be found here. Of all the Sweden cities, Gothenburg has managed to retain its cosmopolitan image.

    • Lund: Lund emerged as a center of politics, culture, religion and commerce of Scandinavia when its cathedral was consecrated in 1145. The town appears more like a university town and has winding passageways and century old buildings. The Lund University established in 1666 plays an important role in shaping the town's life.
    • Uppsala: This is Sweden's major university city and also has a 15th century cathedral. It was also once a center of royalty and Queen Christina held court here occasionally. The best time to visit this place is on April 30 when the rebirth of spring is celebrated by the academic community. A torchlight parade is also organized during this occasion.
    • Kalmar: Among the cities at Sweden, Kalmar has emerged as a thriving commercial center. It is basically a coastal town located opposite the Baltic island of Oland and has the best preserved Renaissance castle of Sweden. Even today it has retained some of the sea captains' houses and 17th century buildings. More than three centuries back, the first large scale Swedish emigration to America took place here.
Apart from this there are many other cities at Sweden too which have its unique features. You can visit these places on your Sweden tours.
