Argentina Food

In the South American country of Argentina food is inspired by cuisines from across the world like Spanish, Italian, French and other European cuisines. The second largest country in the South American continent, Argentina is also one of the world's major food producers.

The climate in Argentina and its rich, lowland regions make it one of the world's greatest food-producing nations. Argentine cattle ranchers raise more than 4 percent of the world's cattle. Argentina is also South America's largest producer of honey. It’s no surprise that red meat and honey make their way into many delicious Argentine desserts. Beef is one of the most popular food items of the Argentines. Argentina’s annual consumption of beef averaged 67.7 kg (149 lbs) in the year 2007.

Many Argentine dishes contain meat, but are prepared in different ways. Argentine’s have a liking for high protein diet, especially beef. Grilled meat from the asado (barbecue) is a staple, with steak and beef ribs particularly common. Chorizo (pork sausage), morcilla (blood sausage), chinchulines (chitterlings), mollejas (sweetbread), and other parts of the animal are also enjoyed by Argentines.

In Patagonia, which is the southernmost part of South America and also Argentina, lamb and chivito (goat) are eaten more than beef. Whole lambs and goats can be seen on the asado. Chimichurri, a sauce of herbs, garlic and vinegar is often used as an accompaniment.

Another favorite Argentine Food is parrillada, a mixed grill of steak and other cuts of beef. Grilled steak, also known as churrasco , a beef roast cooked over an open fire called asado , and milanesa or beef that is dipped in eggs, crumbs, and then fried are other popular food items in Argentina. Argentines also love to eat Carbonada which is a stew that contains meat, potatoes, sweet potatoes, and chunks of corn on the cob

Thus in Argentina, food occupies a very important position in the society and a mention of the country without talking about its varied and delicious food items would be unfair and unjust.
