Union Square
Union Square is the third largest shopping area in the United States. It consists of a 2.6 acres plaza surrounded by Geary, Powell, Post and Stockton Streets. The central shopping district that surrounds the plaza for several blocks, along with the hotel and the theater districts area also referred to as Union Square. The name originated from the fact that this area was once used for rallies and showing support to the Union Army, during the time of Civil War. There is a large collection of upscale boutiques, department stores, salons, art galleries and trinket shops, where one can buy various types of products.How to go to Union Square
It helps, if you have prior knowledge about how to go to Union Square while visiting San Francisco. From most of the bay area freeways, you can follow the signs, which will lead you to Union Square. There is a parking garage locate beneath the square, where you can park your car. The parking rate is pretty much similar to the rates at the other garages in downtown. Walking down from North Beach or Chinatown is also a convenient way of reaching downtown; you will have to Grant Street through the Chinatown gate to Maiden Lane and then turn right.
Visit Union Square
Anytime is a good time to visit Union square, but during weekends this area is the busiest. Whether you like to shop or not, you must go to Union Square, while on a tour to San Francisco. If you are looking to do some serious shopping, you can spend an entire day and even come back the next day. Those not interested in shopping take an hour or two to browse the various shops. On festive occasion like Christmas, this place is attractively decked up to receive all those who come to union Square.
Union Square also known as Downtown is considered to be the city heart and offers a great shopping experience. There are some people who disagree on this, but then everyone is entitled to his/her own views on this. If you would like to watch a play or show, the tickets are half priced so it means it will be pretty easy on your pocket. Macy's Union Square is the biggest department store here.
