Fisherman Wharf
Fisherman’s Wharf is a popular tourist destination in San Francisco. This place gets its name and uniqueness from the days of ‘Gold Rush’ in the city, when Italian emigrant fisherman settled here and fished Dungeness crab, among other things. Till date it has remained as the home for San Francisco’s fishing fleet, though it supplies only a tiny fraction of the fish served in the restaurants of San Francisco. One can enjoy watching the diverse sights and sounds that can be found there. There are manu restaurants located here; Pompeii's and Alioto's #8 are a couple of restaurants here, which are owned by three generations of the same family.
Many events are hosted at the Fisherman’s Wharf in San Francisco. Prominent among them is the outstanding display of fireworks during Fourth of July. Some of the best views of the Fleet Week air shows can also be witnessed here. Many films have been shot at this location and the prominent one is the James Bond film A View to a Kill.
How to go to Fisherman’s Wharf
There are lots of ways to go to Fisherman’s Wharf; you will have to choose one based on your preference and convenience. You will also have to choose the best way to get there, based on where you are coming from. It is located about halfway between Golden Gate and Bay Bridges. Cable car is a preferred mode of going there; it stops at Mason and Bay, which is less busy and about a block away, than the one at Hyde Street. If you are driving there, you must be ready to shell out $15 or more for parking space. So, if you are not willing to spend so much, you might as well opt to travel through the public transport system.
