Sacre Coeur
There was a time when France was considered to be very much inclined towards religion compared to other western countries. But now that situation no longer prevails. Paris has played an integral role in Christian, Roman and Jewish history. Hence several monuments, cathedrals and artifacts, which are the living legends of that period can be found there. Basilique Sacre Coeur, Paris is actually a Roman Catholic Church which is a familiar landmark on Montmarte. The site of the church is a reminiscent of the beheading of the city's patron, Saint Denis. Sacre Coeur in Paris in France architecturally and historically bears strong resemblance to the Basilica Notre-Dame de Fourviere in Lyon.

Sacre Coeur, Paris was actually designed by architect Paul Abadie, following the pattern of Roman-Byzantine architectural style. In the year 1875, its foundation stone was laid which was completed in 1914. however after the end of the first world war it was officially opened for worship in 1919.

The triple arched portico is has two bronze statues of national saints of France, King saint Louis IX and Joan of Arc. The church also boats of having the world's heaviest bells weighing 19 tons. The Sacre Coeur at Paris in France is built of Chateau-Landon stone which is basically a type of lime stone that is frost resistant. If you climb to the top of the dome you can enjoy a great view of Paris. Even walking around the dome is also equally titillating. At the back of the altar there is a striking mural of Christ's Passion.

Above the high altar the Blessed Sacrament is continuously on display. There is also a crypt which contains a relic. Some are of the opinion that it is Christ's Sacred heart from which Basilica derived its name. Without witnessing its unique beauty sightseeing in Paris is virtually incomplete.
