Enclosed by Germany, Luxembourg, Belgium, Monaco, Andorra, Switzerland, Italy and Spain, on various sides, the country of France is located in the western part of Europe. Positioned on the banks of the River Seine, in northern France, the capital city of Paris is the most significant of all cities in France. Owing to the growing population and consequently the growing death rates, the Catacombs came into being. It actually covers a section of Paris' past mines near the Left Bank's Place Denfert-Rochereau. The catacomb walls are full of graffiti dating from the eighteenth century.
