History of the Paris Book Fair

One the largest paid-entry book fair open to the general public in Europe, the Paris Book Fair is the main event organized for the promotion of books in France. Started in 1981, the fair is held annually, under the authority of SNE - the trade association of book publishers in France. Flightshotelstours provides detailed information on the History of the Paris Book Fair.

According to the History of the Paris Book Fair, the fair first opened its doors in 1981 as the result of the initiative taken by an SNE member-company. A business organization and a private legal entity, SNE first came into operations in 1892. The members of the SNE account for the bulk of French publishing.

All these years, the Paris Book Fair has not only provided visitors with a valuable insight into the thriving publishing industry in France, but has also served to establish productive communication between publishers, booksellers, book distributors, teachers and librarians on one hand, and professionals, intellectuals and academicians on the other. Every year throughout the Paris Book fair History, eminent authors from across the globe have visited the fair.

History of Book Fair in Paris also mentions that in the initial years, the fair used to be held in Paris' Grand Palais. But in 1992, it was moved to the main Exhibition Center in Paris (Parc des Expositions of Paris) - Porte de Versailles.

If we take a closer look at the History of the Paris Book Fair, it is evident that though the fair was originally centered in Paris, over the years, its scope has gradually expanded to include other regions of France as well. The Paris Book fair's considerable growth as an international event can well be judged from the fact that whereas 117 000 visitors had attended the fair in its opening year, the number had increased to 174 000 visitors in 2006.

Ever since 1992, the Paris Book Fair has attained an international dimension by welcoming foreign writers a Guest of Honor country every year. Also part of the History of the Paris Book Fair is the fact that the Fair has showcased 12 different foreign literatures so far. This move has not only allowed the French populace to get valuable insights into new literary horizons, but has also aided the publishing sectors of both France and the guest countries to build up and deepen ties.
