Bicentennial Park
Bicentennial Park is an important tourist destination in Miami, Florida. The park has a long history and is popular among both domestic and international travelers.
The park is an urban, municipal park located in the downtown region of Miami in the state of Florida. Bicentennial Park has a sprawling area of 30 acres or 0.12 km2. The park was inaugurated in 1976 on the location of an old ship basin. The name "Bicentennial Park" signifies the bicentenary of the independence of the United States in that same year.
At present, the park is overseen by Miami-Dade County Parks and Recreation Department. Miami-Dade County Parks and Recreation Department is a community association that supervises all the parks in the city of Miami. The park is surrounded on the north by the Miami Herald headquarters and I-395, Metromover, on the south by the Bayside Marketplace and American Airlines Arena, on the east by Biscayne Bay, and on the west by Biscayne Boulevard.
Because of the huge open-air area, Bicentennial Park is home to many events and gala occasions. The park can accommodate upto 45,000 people. Nevertheless, it may vary according to the type and nature of event. Be it one stage or many stages, Bicentennial Park offers a festive ambience. Some of the important festivals that took place in this venue are the grand chapiteau of Cirque Du Soleil, the Lollapalooza music festival, Ultra Music Festival, and Warped Tour (rock concert).
Presently, the park is being revamped for housing the new Miami Science Museum and Miami Art Museum. Both of them are under construction.
You can reach Bicentennial Park by the Metrorail. It is closely located to the Government Center Station. You can also reach there directly via the Park West Station and Eleventh Street Station of Metromover.
