There are basically two seasons in Mauritius, namely summer and winter. Summer month begin from November and goes on till May. Summer temperatures usually vary from 25 degrees to 33 degrees Celsius around the coastal belt and 20-28 degrees Celsius around the plateau area.

Winter months begin from May and goes on till October. Winter temperatures remain almost the same as summer, with a few degrees drop. Unlike usual winter in most places, winter climate in Mauritius is generally humid and hot, with an average temperature around the coastal region being 24 degrees Celsius and about 19 degrees Celsius around the plateaus.



Rainfall is a major part of Mauritius weather, which causes change in the otherwise more or less constant temperature. Rainy climate is experienced during January to March which is considered to be the monsoon months. Also note that the country is prone to Tropical cyclones. So, don’t forget to check the weather forecast before starting your journey; doing so will help you plan accordingly.

During the summer


If you are planning a visit to the country during the summer months, it is required that you get clothes suitable for the season. It is preferred that you carry clothes that are preferably light and loose fitting. It is also required that you carry attires made out of cotton. It is advisable, that you avoid walking around wearing jeans, as they would stick to your legs during the hot and humid days.

In accordance to all these, you should also keep in mind that you have come to the destination to avoid the cold weather. Do not forget to soak up some rays of sun, at least for 1o minutes. You should also remember to cover up to avoid the sunburn after some time. If you are going for a swim, it is advisable that you apply water repellent sunscreen.

During the winter


If you are traveling to Mauritius during the winter months, you should remember to carry warmer clothes especially for night. During the months of June to August, you can wear summer-preferred attire, especially if you are traveling to the western region of the country and spending time near the coast.

The southern and the eastern coastlines records a windy climatic condition and usually remains at least two degrees cooler that the western region. If you are traveling to these parts of the country, you can choose to wear jeans and loose fitting top. Even though the winter months record a much cooler temperature, it is advisable that you still protect your skin from sunburn.
