Flic en Flac

Situated on the west of Mauritian coastline, Flic En Flac was initially just a small locale with its only attractions being a spectacular lagoon and a very long beach. Till the 1960s the country used to receive very few tourists and had trade as its primary feature and not tourism, unlike today. When the sugar prices rose, which resulted in a major economic boom in the country; not only there was an up-gradation in the standard of living among the people but also the country gained considerable recognition across the globe.

Natural History Museum:

The museum is located in the capital city of Port Louis, which is only half an hour drive from Flic en Flac. The museum houses a replica of Dodo, the legendry flightless bird which is the main attraction of the place. Since the 18th century, Dodos has been an extinct species because of predators like pigs, rats and dogs. However, you can still catch a sight of the legendry bird at Natural History Museum.  

Souillac (GrisGris)

Souillac, a small Mauritian town located approximately 30 kilometers from Flic en Flac offers quite a lot for tourists. The main attraction of the region is its breathtaking landscape. The lush green mountains surrounding the sea, the bracing winds which are constantly blowing and the welcoming resorts are some of the features that draw tourists to this beautiful town.

Chamarel:

Chamarel, another small town in Mauritius which is about 15 kilometres from Flic en Flac, is one of the major destinations of tourist interest. The place is known for its spectacular waterfalls amongst the jungle vegetation and Seven Coloured Earth, a geographical attraction caused due to volcanic rock weathering.

Central Market:

The market is situated in the capital city Port Louis which is only thirty minutes from Flic en Flac, is the major shopping area. The market caters to almost all kinds of commodities, like local crafts, souvenirs, clothes, spices, vegetables, fruits and many more. Make sure to bargain on the prices. It is better to visit the market during the early hours of the day, in order to avoid the mid day Sun, which makes shopping very uncomfortable. Beware of the different aromas which might just overwhelm you.

La Vanille Crocodile Park:

The park is situated towards the southern part of the region close to Riviere des Anguilles. It is known for the Nile crocodiles, which has been imported from the island nation of Madagascar. The place also houses a little zoo where you can find a wide variety of wild animals. If you want to enjoy walks in the nature, the place offers brilliant walks, which take you into the forest. Here you can catch the sight of beautiful fresh water springs. You will also find a restaurant in the park, which serves crocodile meat dishes for people who like to experiment with their taste buds along with normal snacks and lunch.

Domaine de l'Ylang Ylang:

The garden offers a great view of the Vieux Grand Port Bay. The main attraction of the park is its Ylang Ylang plantations. The place is abounding with the beautiful fragrance of the yellow flowers, which are used for perfume distillations. If you like to be in nature then you’ll be glad to know the park also offers brilliant scope for hiking.

The park nestles in the valley of beautiful mountains at Cluny, Grand Port District. Le Val Nature Park is know for its natural aquatic life, green houses, animals, plants, birds, deer park, spring water and much more.
