About Mauritius Airport
Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport is the principal Mauritius Airport. It serves as the major base of the official air carrier of the country, Air Mauritius.
Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport was earlier known as SSR Airport or Plaisance Airport. It is a famous international airport, which serves the island nation of Mauritius. Sir Seewoosagur Airport is situated at Plaine Magnien, close to Plaisance and 48 km (26 miles) southeast of the national capital of Mauritius, Port Louis. The airport got its name from the name of the first Prime Minister of Mauritius, Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam (1900–1985). It is a public airport.
Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport works as the hub for the national air carrier, Air Mauritius. Majority of upkeep of the airliners is performed at the new hangar facilities.

The current terminal building of the airport features two levels. Majority of flight arrivals is managed on the lower level and departures are managed on the upper level. A big outside parking area adjoins the airport. The SSR International Airport is different from other airports in that it only allows admission to passengers. Those who are not passengers don’t have any permission to enter the airport. Consequently, there are no landside outlets. There are only duty-free jewelry and cloth shops once you go past customs checking in the waiting area. In addition, there is a small duty-free shop for passengers reaching Mauritius.
Aéroports de Paris group companies ADPI and ADPM claimed on May 28, 2009 that they had achieved the bid to build and handle a new terminal (Terminal 2). This terminal will link with the current terminal. The operator of SSR International Airport is Airports of Mauritius Co. Ltd.
Sir Gaëtan Duval Airport
Aside from the SSR International Airport, there is another important airport in Mauritius. The name of the airport is Sir Gaëtan Duval Airport. It is situated close to Plaine Corail on Rodrigues, which is an island colony of the country. The airport received its name from the name of an erstwhile Deputy Prime Minister of Mauritius, Sir Charles Gaëtan Duval (1930-1996). He played a key role behind the majority of the advancement of Rodrigues. Sir Gaëtan Duval Airport was previously known as Plaine Corail Airport.
Sir Gaëtan Duval Airport managed 49,500 passengers in the year 2006. The airport features an asphalt runway and the area of the runway is 1,020 by 30 meters (3,350 × 98 ft).
