History: It is said that Haji Ali House was set up keeping in mind the late 19th century Buginese-Malay historian named Raja Ali Haji bin Raja Haji Ahmed. He was also a poet and scholar who gained much prominence in early Malay history. Historical sources reveal that he had a considerable influence in Haji Ali house.

Raja Haji Ali belonged to Selangor initially and was born there. Later in life he relocated to Penyengat where he received his education. Throughout his lifetime he wrote some of his famous poems and other works. His famous works are given below:-
