The East Malaysian tribes have their own dialects, which is little different in form. In Sabah and Sarawak, the prime tribal dialects are Dusunic and Iban.

In 1402, it became the trade language of Malacca and was widely influenced by the Islamic literature. The language is a mixture of Sanskrit, Arabic and Hindi languages.
