Tourist Attractions in Aurangabad

Aurangabad is the well known city of Maharashtra, India famous for its rock cut temples of Ajanta and Ellora. The city was named after Mughal Emporer Aurangzeb. Bibi-ka-Maqbara, constructed between 1657-1661, is mausoleum of Rabia Durrani, Aurangzeb's wife. It is built on Persian architecture and looks beautiful at night. Then Panchakki is one of medieval structures, built in 1624, pre-Mughal era in memory of Sufi Saint Baba Shah Musafir, with tomb nearby. Panchakki is Pre-Mughal watermill to work upon large grain grinding stones.

Now the famous Aurangabad caves, lying 3 km from Aurangabad, are known for their old architecture. These caves are spread in an area for 1.5 km. There are 10 caves from Buddhist era and these were discovered between 3rd and 11th century. Many caves belong to Hinduism and have many idols of Hindu Gods. Caves are open from sunrise to sunset. These caves are very famous tourist attractions in Aurangabad.

You can visit history Museum of Marathawada University. It has large collection of exclusive and antique objects including Maratha miniature paintings, Maughal paintings, Marathawada region sculpture, China clay objects, items with gold embroidery, manuscripts from 17th and 18th century in Persian and many other things.
