The Palaces and Gardens of Potsdam are one of the most magnificent sites of architectural excellence in Germany. The palace was constructed as a symbol of Prussia’s success at the end of the Seven Year’s War or The Third Silesian War. Demonstrating the glory of the king in architectural form, the palace was the reception area for the royal dignitaries. The rooms were used for theaters and occasional events. Frederick used to stay in a set of southern rooms of the palace, which consisted of a study room, a dining gallery, a concert room, a bedroom and two antechambers.
In 1786, after the death of Frederick, rarely any occasion took place in NewPalace. In 1859, it became the summer residence of the next crowned prince Frederick Wilhelm of Germany, who later became famous as Kaiser Frederick III. The palace was the favorite residence of King Kaiser Frederick III and his queen Victoria. Kaiser Frederick III renamed this palace as FriedrichskronPalace and a fosse was dug around the new palace. The palace was renovated and restored after the ascension of Kaiser Wilhelm II, the new king of Germany after King Kaiser Frederick III. After the November revolution and dethronement of Kaiser Wilhelm II, the new palace turned to a museum. The Palace did not face any effect of World War II, and so, it is still standing in its own place the same way as it was in 1918

The Palace is made with a splendid use of gilt, stone and marble. There are altogether 200 rooms in this palace, each of them displaying the excellence of baroque architecture and interior decoration. The royal architect Johann Gottfried Büring was given the task of planning the design of PotsadamPalace. The state-of-the-art central dome of the palace is one of the major attractions of Potsdam. Over 400 sandstone figurines made by some famous sculptors are decorated in the palace and the other constructions of the area.
