Place Stanislas


Nancy is a city located in the northeast of France and is the capital of Meurthe-et-Moselle Department. Here at Nancy, you will find several buildings, exquisitely designed, which are fine examples of the 18th century architecture. Place Stanislas, France also belongs to this era. At present there is a historical museum.

Place Stanislas, France which is based at Nancy, is colloquially known as the place Stan. Ever since the year 1983, the architectural ensemble which comprises of the Place Stanislas, France and the extension of its axis, the Place d'Alliance and Place de la carriere, is listed in the World Heritage Site of UNESCO.

Place Stanislas, France is basically 106m wide and 125m long. It is paved with light ochre stones, with two lines of darker stones which form a diagonal cross motif. The square is surrounded by a number of buildings which have excellent architecture. Some of the most notable architectural buildings found here around Place Stanislas in France are the City Hall of Nancy, the Opera-Theatre, the Fine Arts Museum and many others.


The City Hall of Nancy which lies at the south of Place Stanislas at France, also has the Prefecture of Meurthe-et-Moselle at the South-East corner. The Opera-Theater along with the Grand Hotel occupies the eastern position. The Pavillon Jacquet and the Fine Arts Museum lies at the west. At the northern side the buildings were are lower so that proper defense can be maintained.

Place Stanislas was built by Emmanuel Here between 1752 and 1760 along with the adjoining squares. There are five imposing palaces along with balustrades and balconies around the square. There is a statue of King Stanislas at the center. The most notable feature of the square is the magnificent gilded wrought-iron railings which were made by Jean Lamour. Th largest palace which is around the square if the Hotel de Ville also known as Town Hall. There are magnificent banisters on the staircase made by Lamour.
