Corsica is one of the most vibrant traveling destinations in Europe. Located in the Mediterranean Sea, this Island-city is a French region and a wonderful place to spend some time on your vacation. Given the diverse terrain of the island, you can indulge in a number of outdoor activities. This island is popular for its long stretches of white sand beaches, rocky mountains, lush gardens and sands. So, there is something to enjoy for all types of travelers.

Many visitors to this island arrive by air; the island has four airports for this. However, there are many visitors who prefer to come here via the ferry services, from either Sardinia in Italy or mainland France, which is located nearby. The major ferry ports are located at - Bonifacio, Ajaccio, Bastia, Calvi and Propriano. Travelling between Sardinia and Bonfacio takes approximately an hour while it can about four to eight hours to cross from either mainland Italy or France.

Due to its proximity to both Italy and France, Corsica ranks among the most preferred tropical holiday destinations in Europe. Another reason for this popularity is the prevailing Mediterranean climate throughout the year. Adventure buffs have a wide array of choice to indulging in while vacationing in this island. Scuba diving, swimming, snorkeling are just a few of them. Some of the Corsica tourist attractions are briefly described here:

  • Aiguilles de Bavella: this remarkable attraction is a group of rocks which, are situated on the southeastern part of the island. One of the attractive features of this structure is the reflection of different colored hues visible during sunlight. These hues keep on changing, according to the change in the color of the sky. Colors range from shades of grey to red. The lovely vegetations inhabiting the site give out a marvelous view.

  • Corsica walking trails: the island has many walking trails and perhaps the most popular and difficult one is GR 20. If you are using the traditional waypoints, it will take you about 17 days to cover the entire trail. Experienced people will need less time for this. During August, there is a huge rush for this tour, so it is best to avoid that time. You will need a topographical map to go on this trail or any other trail in Corsica. Some of the trails will take you through fishing villages, where you can have a relaxing time.

  • Scandola Nature Reserve & Girolata: this is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and lies towards the island’s northwest coast. Located in the midst of Gulf of Porto and Girolata and the Scandola Nature Reserve, it has some terrific rock formations caused by volcanic turmoil, the sea and the wind. Do not forget to carry your camera and capture the mesmerizing views of the cliffs, rocks and the coves. Girolata on the other hand is a small rural settlement, with very few residents and a tower and fortress, which you can explore.

  • Bonifacio: located towards the southernmost end of Corsica, there are many things which travelers here can see, explore and enjoy. Get atop any of the sailboats or luxury yacht if you prefer to see the wonderful marine life there. There is nothing like sailing on those waters, seeing the stunning views and tasting mouthwatering local and international delicacies available on-board. Boating, fishing and surfing are just a few of the other things that you can enjoy here.

  • Costa Serena: it is a private beach located at Bastia. Every year a huge number of tourists go there to laze around, in the white sand beach while enjoying their vacations. This beach is the perfect spot in Corsica for adventure lovers and camping enthusiasts. This coast is one of the must-visit places while you are traveling in this island.

  • Calvi: if exploration is in your blood, you must head over to the northern coast of Corsica to Calvi. Being the birthplace of Christopher Columbus, it is a very popular seaside resort and offers plenty of opportunities for satisfaction to visitors. To go to this island, take a ferry form Nice and it will take you there in about seven hours. The panoramic view and natural scenery of this place are more than enough to keep you occupied. Other than exploring the beaches and the hills there, you can enjoy a vibrant nightlife and dine at the many restaurants located there.

  • Saint-Florent: visitors to this island have an interesting opportunity to explore the renowned Patrimonio vineyards. From here you can head over to the other vineyards, located nearby and indulge in wine tasting and also get a glimpse of the manufacturing process undertaken there. Apart from this, the island also has a fortress, cathedral and a comparatively untouched beach.

  • Ajaccio: in the capital city of Corsica, you can visit some of the spectacular museums located there. National Museum of the Bonaparte House has an interesting collection of Stone Age statues from Filitosa. Museum Fesch has collection of works from Neopolitan and Roman Baroque eras along with Italian and Napoleonic art.
