Pont Neuf

Located on the southwest part of France, Bordeaux has always been a popular tourist destination. Geographically Bordeaux is situated on the northern side of Aquitaine region in the European Atlantic coast. This world heritage city is also listed in the UNESCO World Heritage List of cities. Among several eye catching places of Tourist Attractions in Bordeaux, Pont Neuf is an important one.
Pont Neuf
Bordeaux city lies on the bent of the Garonne which is a famous river in France. This city is crossed by the Garonne River which meets at and flows into the Gironde Estuary on the Atlantic coast. Thus the whole city is divided into two halves along East and West bank of this important river. Although the left west bank is historically prominent, the right bank on the east is politically and economically more advanced. Connecting these two halves on the river Garonne, Pont Neuf is one of the famous sightseeing spots in Bordeaux.

The French word Pont Neuf means “New Bridge”. This Bridge in Bordeaux is commonly known as “Bridge 9”. In spite of being literally “New”, “Pont Neuf” is actually quite old and is around 220m long with 7 arches and was constructed on 1659. On your way to Toulouse from Bordeaux you can find this bridge.

In addition to “Pont Neuf”, the city of Bordeaux also has 4 road bridges that cross the river Garonne. Pont Saint Jean, Pont d'Aquitaine and Pont François Mitterrand are the new bridges constructed after 1960s but Pont-de-Pierre is comparatively of much older built. Its construction can be traced back to the 1820s. Pont Saint Jean is on the downtown and just on the south side of Pont de Pierre. Pont d'Aquitaine is another beautiful bridge similar to Pont Neuf. This is a suspended bridge connecting downstream to downtown where as Pont François Mitterrand is located between upstream and downtown. Though all these bridges have characteristic architectural features, no one is as beautiful like Pont Neuf.

With the construction of this bridge, the transport system of Bordeaux has developed a lot. Most of the buses, cars and shuttles plying towards Toulouse follow the road bridge of Pont Neuf. While you are in Bordeaux Tours, you need to cross this beautiful bridge in order to take a round of the other places of tourist attractions nearby. This bridge on your way to Toulouse from Bordeaux is a corridor between these two French cities. So, do not miss to visit it.
