Judo is a combat sport that has been in the Olympics since 1964, and the Paralympics since 1988. Judo was first included in the Paralympics at Seoul, Korea in 1988. It is one of the events in the 2008 Beijing Summer Paralympics, the 13th edition of the Summer Paralympics, which will take place in September 2008 from 6th to 17th.

Judo in the Paralympics is played by sportspersons with visual impairments. The governing body under whose rules and regulations the sports is played is International Blind Sport Federation (IBSF). The rules are close as possible to the ones laid down by the International Judo Federation (IJF) with a few necessary modifications.
The duration for each fight is 5 minutes and it is the same for men as well as women.
Players competing in Judo are classified into different sport classes based on the extent of their disability to ensure competition among athletes with equal caliber.
- B1 - In this category, participants will be included on the basis of their perception of light in either eye to the perception of light, but without the ability to recognize the shape of a hand at any distance or in any direction.
- B2 - In this category, participants will be included on the basis of their the ability to recognize the shape of a hand to a visual acuity of 2/60 and/or a visual field of less than 5 degrees.
- B3 - In this category, participants will be included on the basis of their visual acuity above 2/60 up to visual acuity of 6/60 and/or a visual field of more than 5 degrees and less than 20 degrees.
In a fight, the athlete who scoring an ippon or scores the greater number of points emerges the winner. There are textured mats placed to aid the fighters.
The Judo events in the 2008 Summer Paralympic Games in Beijing will take place from the 7th to 9th September.
