The Beijing National Stadium, also known as the bird's nest will host most of the track and field events for the 2008 Summer Olympics and Paralymics, as well as hosting the Opening and Closing ceremonies. The stadium has a capacity of holding 100,000 spectators during the Olympics, but this caopacity will be reduced to 80,000 after the games. The stadium is 330 m in length by 220 m width, and is 69.2 m tall. The 250,000 square m (gross floor area) stadium is to be built with 36 km of unwrapped steel, with a combined weight of 45,000 tonnes. The stadium will cost up to 3.5 billion yuan.
Qingdao International Sailing Centre:
The Qingdao International Sailing Centre is located on the former site of the Beihai Shipyard by Qingdao's Fushan Bay at the Shandong Province in China. It is under construction to host the Sailing competitions for 2008 Paralympics.
The marina covers an area of 45 hectares, two thirds of which will be utilized for competitions. Olympic village, athlete centre, boating park, media centre, international passenger liner terminal, international conference centre, five star hotel, international yacht club, seaside marina, shopping and amusement centre, parks and public squares would be constructed in the neighboring areas.
Hong Kong Sports Institute:
The Hong Kong Sports Institute is a sports institute in Hong Kong and one of the venues for 2008 Paralympics in Beijing. The International Olympic Committee announced that Hong Kong will hold the equestrian events at the Hong Kong Sports Institute in Fo Tan, Sha Tin at the 2008 Summer Olympics. The facilities of the Sports Institute may be moved to Wu Kai Sha.
