The 2008 Beijing Paralympics is the thirteenth Paralympics and will be held in Beijing, China from September 6 2008 to September 17 2008. Mainland China is expected to host most of the athletes. As with the 2008 Beijing Paralympics, equestrian events are going to be held in Hong Kong and the sailing events are going to be held in Qingdao.

The International Paralympic Committee (IPC) is the global governing body of the Summer Paralympics 2008 and all other Paralympics events. The IPC organizes the Summer and Winter Paralympic Games, and is also the International Federation for 12 sports, which it supervises and co-ordinates. The World Championships and other competitions for these sports are also controlled and governed by the IPC. The IPC is also committed to enabling Paralympic athletes to achieve excellence in their relative fields and towards the development of sport opportunities for all persons with a disability from the beginner to advanced level. In addition, the IPC also aims to promote the Paralympic values of courage, determination, inspiration and equality.
The IPC is an international non-profit organization that was founded on 22 September 1989. It was formed and is now run by 162 National Paralympic Committees (NPCs) from five regions and four disability specific international sports federations (IOSDs). The IPC has its Headquarters and management team at Bonn, Germany. The organization has a democratic constitution and is made up of elected representatives. The four IOSDs are:
