Taekwondo
Officially known as the 'Games of the XXIX Olympiad', the 2008 Summer Olympics will take place from August 8, 2008 to August 24, 2008. Amongst the many sports played, Taekwondo will also be included in them. The competitions of Taekwondo at the 2008 Beijing Summer Olympics will be held from August 20 to August 23. The Taekwondo tournaments will take place at the Beijing Science and Technology University Gymnasium.The sport of Taekwondo is a Korean martial art and combat sport. Taekwondo means 'the way of the foot and fist'. The sport of Taekwondo is a deadly combination of combat techniques, sport, exercise, self-defense, philosophy and entertainment. The sport involves destroying with the feet and striking or smashing with the hand. The competition format states that the Taekwondo Event will consist of a single elimination tournament. Bronze medals will be awarded to the two losers of the semifinal bouts.
Beijing is the place where the 2008 Summer Olympics will take place. The metropolis of Beijing is situated in northern China. Formerly referred to as Peking, Beijing is the capital of the People's Republic of China (PRC). The wonderful Beijing is well known for its numerous tourist attraction spots.
