Swimming
The 12th Internal Olympic Committee Session in Moscow on 13 July 2001 decided that Beijing would be hosting the Games of the XXIX Olympiad in 2008. The Commission was confident that Beijing could organize an excellent Game so they recommended IOC Evaluation Commission that "A Beijing Games would leave a unique legacy to China and to sports”. As a result of which Beijing is the host of the 2008 Beijing Summer Olympics Sports.
Olympic is starting on the 8th August, 2008 at 08:08:08 PM. According to the Chinese belief, the lucky figure “8” will bring all success to the 2008 Summer Olympics. It will continue till 24th of August, 2008. Swimming is the most popular event amongst Aquatics Events in 2008 Beijing Summer Olympics Sports. There are 28 sports in 2008 Beijing Summer Olympics Sports. Some of the summer sports are Aquatics, Archery, Athletics, Baseball, Boxing, Canoe, Shooting, Badminton, Gymnastics, Rowing, Sailing etc.
Olympic Swimming has come a long way and has included many new events with time. It is now far ahead of the game in those early days. In the first ever modern Olympic Games in Athens which was held in 1896a 19-year old Hungarian by the name of Alfred Hajos won the 1200 meters freestyle. With his success, swimming became more popular amongst the swimming lovers.
In 2008 Beijing Summer Olympics Sports, 34 swimming events including 17 each for men and women have been chalked out. The individual program involves four different strokes across a range of distances and there are also group events like relays:
- Freestyle: 50 m and multiples of 100 like 200 and 400 m. The furthest length for women is 800 m, while for men sit is 1500 m . There are separate relays like the 4×100 m relay, 4×200 m relay and the 10 km marathon.
- Backstroke, Breaststroke, Butterfly: These styles of swimming are tested across 100 m and 200 m
- Relays: 4X 200m and 4X100m free style, and 4×100m medley relay

All the swimming events are arranged at Beijing National Aquatic Stadium behind the Beijing National Stadium. Special Attraction 2008 Beijing Olympic is also hosting 10 km marathon open water swimming event in addition to aforesaid 34 events.
Some norms for Swimming:
- each race has a maximum of eight swimmers
- Preliminary heats in the 50m, 100m and 200m lead to semi-finals and finals based on the fastest times
- relays and individual events of 400m or more, the eight fastest finishers in the preliminaries advance directly to the finals
