Handball
The Olympic games for the year 2008 has been awarded to The Peoples Republic of China by the international Olympic committee. The Official logo of the 2008 Beijing Summer Olympic Sports is " Dancing Beijing". There is a special calligraphic character in the logo called jing which means the capital.
Nearly 10,500 athletes are taking part in the event. Officially the Opening Ceremony of the event will be on August 8. 5 Fuwas have been considered as the mascots of the games. The five dolls or Fuwas exhibit the five elements of Chinese philosophy that is water, metal, fire, wood and earth. There are 28 sports in the event and Handball is one of the important constituents.
Handball can be categorized as team handball, field handball, Eurpean handball and Olympic Handball. It is a team game where there are 2 teams which consist of 6 players each. The goal in the game is similar to the one in Soccer the only difference is that it is a bit small. The basic rule comprises of using the hand in place of the feet. The game has been in vogue since the 1920s. It is played in a court which is 40 meters in length and 20 meters in breadth. The goals are surrounded by a 6 m semi circular line.
In Handball Sport the ball is smaller to the one used in football and the players can hold it in a single hand. A player can hold the ball to a maximum of 3 seconds and with the ball in had can take only 3 steps.
In Handball in 2008 Beijing Summer Olympics there is provision for 2 set of medals. The events covered include Handball Men and Handball Women. One NOC team can enter a maximum of 1 men's and 1 women's team in the coveted competition.
For the 2008 Beijing Summer Olympic Sports the Chinese authorities have arranged for a tight security. There is a 5 level emergency alert system to avert any untoward situation.
