Athletics
Beijing which was formerly called Peking is the capital of the People's Republic of China. This metropolitan city is a great introduction to China with its distinctive Oriental charm on the one hand and on the other it tells of beautiful well planned roads, huge apartments, financial firms and industrial houses, swanky malls, and a buzzing business district.

The city has been in the forefront in recent years because of the 2008 Beijing Olympics. A whooping 37 billion dollars is being spent in this event. The Olympic facilities, grounds, gaming equipments and technology will be the best that money can provide. It is a perfect opportunity for China to uphold its age old tradition, and custom in the world platform. Athletics is one of the most talked about events in this Olympics.
It all began with Athletics. The very motto of Olympics - "Citius, Altius, Fortius", tells of the importance of Athletics in the Olympics. In the ancient times in Greece the game started with foot races. Later on amours were added but on the whole the game was simple and needed much stamina. Today Athletics is one of the most awaited events in Olympics. Whether it be the 100 meters dash or the longish marathon, the high jump or the long jump, the myth runner or the steroid taker, Athletics, no doubt is one of the much talked about events.
There are six categories in the Athletics events. They are :
