Museum of Contemporary Photography Chicago
Museum for Contemporary Photography is the only museum in the Midwest that exclusively caters to the field of photography and images. The museum was founded in 1984 and today houses several exhibits and collections from across the world. There are images, photography objects, and equipments such as tripods that once belonged to famous photographers. It also houses some of the cameras and photo-capturing devices. There are active educational programs related to art, images, and photography carried out by the museum. The Museum of Contemporary Photography is a popular tourist attraction in Chicago city. It is a center of creativity, innovativeness, and education. The place is most visited by young students from the field of art, photography, and films studies. There is a rotating archive of collections since the early 90’s. The permanent collections at the museum represent diverse still photography and landscape photography from different parts of US. The museum over the years has been a source of social and cultural implications captured through images. The events and exhibitions offer greater understanding of photography and its various aspects.
Museum of Contemporary Photography exhibitions
The permanent collections at the museum mainly consist of photographs taken by American residents since the year 1945. There are around 6,000 exhibits belonging to the museum that focuses on different angles and aspects of photography. The objects and subjects relate to photography and portraits. Technological advancement has helped photography largely. This is noticed in the contemporary collections of the Museum of Contemporary Photography.
The collection features work by noted photographers and artists of the 20th century namely Ansel Adams, Harry Callahan, Henri Cartier-Bresson, Julia Margaret Cameron, and Walker Evans. It also features the work of Dorothea Lange, Irving Penn, Aaron Siskind, and Victor Skrebneski.
