The historical Woodlands Homestead is an integral part of the park which was established by William Pomeroy Greene, a formal Royal Navy officer, who had moved here with his family in 1843 in search of healthier climate. The oldest recorded plants in Victoria which is Magnolia is found at the Homestead. Efforts have made to restore the outbuildings of the homestead and its gardens few years back. Evidence that the Woiworung Aboriginals resided in that area before the arrival of the Europeans can be seen in the presence of scarred trees and surface scatters found in that area. There are also ruins of other two homesteads like Cumberland and Dun Donald at the park.

Woodlands Historic Park, Melbourne is open for vehicles from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm in the evening. However during weekends these hours can be extended to 6 pm in the evening.
